Maryland’s Second Look Act is opening an important conversation about justice, accountability, rehabilitation, and restoration.
The legislation creates a pathway for certain long-serving incarcerated individuals, within a specific qualifying age group, to petition the court for a sentence review after decades served.
It does not guarantee release. It allows for the opportunity for a second look if one qualifies. It allows for a judge to review growth, rehabilitation, accountability, public safety, and the interests of justice.
